Welcome to Happy Valley, a suburb located 10 miles southeast of downtown Portland which is making a name for itself as a hidden gem. Perched on Mt. Scott (another of Portland’s extinct volcanos!), this bustling suburb offers some of the most scenic views of Portland and access to multiple nature parks.
A little history!
Originally founded by Christian and Matilda Deardroff
in 1850, it was later officially incorporated into Portland and named Happy Valley in 1965. Over the past 3 decades, Happy Valley has become one of the fastest growing cities
in Oregon, taking strides to grow with intent and differentiate itself from your typical cookie cutter suburb.

Snacks and Sips
Whether you’re in the mood for Thai, Mexican, or just a really good craft beer, there’s no need to travel all the way to downtown Portland with the Happy Valley Station right at your feet. Happy Valley Station food cart pod offers a selection of around 20 different
food cart choices. Unlike other typical food carts, this place offers amazing outdoor and indoor seating so you never have to worry about Portland’s rainy weather when you go. Here are our top food cart picks!
We recommend heading to Fuego All Day
for the perfect birria taco plate to share with your friends. If you’re feeling parched, head over and grab a drink at 30 Taps
—there’s no shortage of options with their selection of over 45 beer taps, and 6 wine taps.
Check out Le Petit Cafe
patisserie where you can snack on all kinds of traditional French baked goods and a selection of croissant sandwiches. If you’re feeling like something light, Wellness Food Cart
fresh pressed raw juices, salads, and other concoctions.
If we haven’t hit your food craving yet, here are some other food options Happy Valley has to offer…
Elka Bee’s Coffee Shop
serves home-cooked breakfast. If you’re looking for a nice way to spend the afternoon with others, we recommend making reservations for their high tea experience —offered Thursday through Sunday.
Say you’re in the mood for a more intimate atmosphere, then you can head over to Whiskey Barrel Lounge
. You’ll feel like you’re in an underground speakeasy the second you enter. With a delicious menu and a selection of over 300 whiskeys, scotches and more, it’s no secret why this is a neighborhood favorite.
If you want a truly breathtaking dining experience, head over to the southernmost point of Happy Valley to Stone Cliff Inn
. This log cabin restaurant rests on a cliff overlooking the Clackamas River.
One of the best things about Happy Valley is the access to nature parks and hiking trails. You can take a look at all of the hiking trails and parks the city has to offer here
. If you’re in the mood for a short hike then head over to Hidden Falls Nature Park
and discover a 20 foot waterfall. For a more scenic hike, visit Scouters Mountain Nature Park
where you’ll find some of the best views of Mt. Hood and picnic tables where you can take in the scenery.
Located in the center of the neighborhood, Happy Valley offers a seasonal farmer’s market with over 200 vendors including farms, baked goods and unique art. The Happy Valley Farmer’s Market
is open from the first Saturday of May until the end of October. They also re-open in December for their Holiday Market featuring 350+ vendors.
Fun for all (family friendly)
Want the perfect family activity? Check out one of the many local pick-your-own farms in Happy Valley. On the northern edge of town there's Sue’s Blueberries
which offers 6 varieties of blueberries to pick from! We also recommend Hartnell Farms
which was founded in the early 1900s and offers a selection of fruits and vegetables.
Happy Valley Library
has a large children’s section and rotating programs for kids. Afterwards, just walk right across the street to Village Green Park
to play basketball, enjoy the sheltered picnic area, walking trails and a brand new playground structure.
If you need to get any shopping done, Happy Valley’s Clackamas Town Center
offers every kind of store you might need. Not to mention there’s also a Costco
and Trader Joe’s
in close proximity. You’re also a 15-30 minute drive to downtown Portland and a 15 minute drive to the Portland International Airport
While the median price of a home in Happy Valley is slightly higher than in Portland city proper, the price per square foot is considerably lower than other suburbs. Because of this, Happy Valley is the perfect place to look for a newly-built larger home at a great value. And since it’s located outside the metropolitan area, you’ll enjoy more favorable tax rates too!
Although Happy Valley is a car dominant suburb, the city is making an effort to change this with the Clackamas to Columbia Corridor plan
which aims to build safer sidewalks, buffered bike lanes, and improved bus service. You can currently access downtown Portland via Trimet’s Max Green Line
which ends at Clackamas Town Center.

Popo & Archer Take Happy Valley
Phew, we’re exhausted! Today we made a ton of new friends at Happy Valley Park
. This park was so cool! It had two separate areas for big dogs and smaller dogs like us so that we don’t have to worry about getting hurt. We got to run around without our leash and there was so much space that we could actually play fetch and frisbee! Next our dads brought us over to the Happy Valley Station
where we got to relax under a covered picnic area while they ate tacos and sipped on some beer. We got so many scratches and pats on the head from all the people around and the staff even brought us our own bowl of water!
Happy Valley! The ideal place for anyone that wants a quieter lifestyle while still being in close proximity to the hustle and bustle of downtown Portland.
